Packard

Packard was founded by James Ward Packard (Lehigh University Class of 1884), his brother William Doud Packard and their partner, George Lewis Weiss, in the city of Warren, Ohio. James Ward Packard believed that they could build a better horseless carriage than the Winton cars owned by Weiss (an important Winton stockholder) and, being himself a mechanical engineer, had some ideas for improvement on the designs of current automobiles.

Packard was not completely satisfied with the Winton car he had recently purchased. He wrote Alexander Winton with his complaints and suggestions; however Mr. Winton, offended by Packard’s criticism, challenged Packard to build a better car. Packard responded by doing so, his marque outlasting Winton’s by many decades. Packard runs his first automobile in Warren, Ohio on November 6, 1899.

In September, 1900, the Ohio Automobile Company was founded as the manufacturer, while the cars were always sold as Packards. Since these automobiles quickly gained an excellent reputation, and there were more automobile makers that produced — or at least planned to — under the label “Ohio”, the name was changed soon: On October 13, 1902, it became the Packard Motor Car Company.

The end

Studebaker-Packard pulled the Packard nameplate from the marketplace in 1959. It kept its name until 1962 when “Packard” was dropped off the corporation’s name at a time when it was introducing the all new Avanti , and a less anachronistic image was being sought, thus finishing the story of the great American Packard marque. Ironically, it was considered that the Packard name might be used for the new fiberglass sports car, as well as Pierce-Arrow, the make Studebaker controlled in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Nash Motors was founded in 1916 by former General Motors president Charles W. Nash who acquired the Thomas B. Jeffery Company. Jeffery’s best-known automobile was the Rambler whose mass production from a plant in Kenosha, Wisconsin began in 1902.

The 1917 Nash Model 671 was the first vehicle produced to bear the name of the new company’s founder.Nash enjoyed decades of success by focusing its efforts to build cars “embodying honest worth … [at] a price level which held out possibilities of a very wide market.”

The four-wheel drive Jeffrey Quad truck became an important product for Nash. Approximately 11,500 Quads were built between 1913 and 1919. They served to move material during World War I under severe conditions. The Quad used Meuhl differentials with half-shafts mounted above the load-bearing dead axles to drive the hubs through hub-reduction gearing.  in addition to featuring four-wheel steering. The Quad achieved the reputation of being the best four-wheel drive truck produced in the country.

De-Soto

The DeSoto make was founded by Walter Chrysler on August 4, 1928, and introduced for the 1929 model year. It was named after the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. Chrysler wanted to enter the brand in competition with its arch-rivals General MotorsStudebaker, and Willys-Knight, in the mid-price class.

Shortly after DeSoto was introduced, however, Chrysler completed its purchase of the Dodge Brothers, giving the company two mid-priced makes. Had the transaction been completed sooner, DeSoto never would have been introduced. As most of the series i have preferred the old line up… well these guy’s dont have an new line up, These guys are old School.

Buick is currently the oldest, still-active American automotive makes, and among the oldest automobile brands in the world. It originated as the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company in 1899, an independent internal combustion engine and motor-car manufacturer, and was later incorporated as the Buick Motor Company on May 19, 1903, by Scottish born David Dunbar Buickin Detroit, Michigan. Later that year, the struggling company was taken over by James H. Whiting(1842–1919),  who moved it to his hometown of Flint, Michigan, and brought in William C. Durantin 1904 to manage his new acquisition. Buick sold his stock for a small sum upon departure, and died in modest circumstances 25 years later. And I also Prefer There Old Line Up (1910-1980)

Happy Birthday Kurt Cobain !!!

yesterday (20th February ) was Kurt Cobain’s 45th birthday he was a revolutionary singer who led Rock/Grunge music to new height’s during the 80’s and 90’s.

Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20, 1967, at Grays Harbor Hospital Aberdeen ,Washington,to a waitress, Wendy Elizabeth (née Fradenburg), and an automotive mechanic, Donald Leland Cobain. His father is of Irish ancestry and his maternal grandfather is of  German descent. Cobain’s Irish ancestors migrated from County Tyrone of Northern Ireland in 1875. Researchers have found them to have been shoemakers, originally named Cobane, who came from the village of Inishatieve near Pomeroy, settling in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, and then in Washington.  Cobain had one younger sister named Kimberly, born in 1970.

Cobain’s family had a musical background. His maternal uncle Chuck Fradenburg starred in a band called The Beachcombers, his Aunt Mari Earle played guitar and performed in bands throughout Grays Harbor County, and his great-uncle Delbert had a career as an Irish tenor; making an appearance in the 1930 film King of Jazz. Cobain was described as being a happy and excitable, while sensitive and caring child. His talent as an artist was evident from an early age. His bedroom was described as having taken on the appearance of an art studio, where he would accurately draw his favorite characters from films and cartoons such as Aquaman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Disney characters like Donald DuckMickey Mouse and Pluto. This enthusiasm was encouraged by his grandmother Iris Cobain, who was a professional artist herself. Cobain began developing an interest in music early in his life. According to his Aunt Mari, he began singing at two years old. At age four, Cobain started playing the piano and singing, writing a song about their trip to a local park. He listened to artists like the Ramones and would sing songs like Arlo Guthrie‘s “Motorcycle Song,” The Beatles‘ “Hey Jude“, Terry Jacks‘ “Seasons in the Sun” and the theme song to The Monkees television show at a young age.

A photograph of Cobain from his second grade school yearbook; the picture was handed out at his memorial service.

When Cobain was seven years old, his parents divorced.  Later in his life, he said the divorce had a profound effect on his life. His mother noted that his personality changed dramatically; Cobain became defiant and withdrawn.  In a 1993 interview, he elaborated:

“I remember feeling ashamed, for some reason. I was ashamed of my parents. I couldn’t face some of my friends at school anymore, because I desperately wanted to have the classic, you know, typical family. Mother, father. I wanted that security, so I resented my parents for quite a few years because of that.”

A friend is nothing but a known enemy.
Kurt Cobain

Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self-respect and everything that goes along with with your self-esteem. They’re no good at all.
Kurt Cobain

I bought a gun and chose drugs instead.
Kurt Cobain

I had a really good childhood up until I was nine, then a classic case of divorce really affected me.
Kurt Cobain

I really haven’t had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I’d rather tell a story about somebody else.
Kurt Cobain

I started being really proud of the fact that I was gay even though I wasn’t.
Kurt Cobain

I was looking for something a lot heavier, yet melodic at the same time. Something different from heavy metal, a different attitude.
Kurt Cobain

I won’t eat anything green.
Kurt Cobain

I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
Kurt Cobain

I’m so happy because today I found my friends – they’re in my head.

Punk is musical freedom. It’s saying, doing and playing what you want. In Webster’s terms, ‘nirvana’ means freedom from pain, suffering and the external world, and that’s pretty close to my definition of Punk Rock.

Old american muscles!

Old american muscle cars are a thing that i love, for one, i would blog about and cherish, The Chevrolet Camaro SS, the one from need for speed games such as Undercover, carbon and thats about it.

The Chevy Camaro does not have alot of power in terms of muscle cars, but as it is an older version, it is as sexy as it will ever be.

See, Isn’t she a beauty, a nice 1968 Chevy camaro SS, with a nice 140 BHP engine. This amazing beast is really Coooooooooooool. With a..nice (bloody terrible) price of £33,000.
